We are a group of writers of mixed abilities and ages who take turns to read their work, and offer comments on that of others. At present we have about 40 members. While most live in the Reading area, we have a few members abroad (France, Hungary, Turkey and Australia). Members’ work includes novels, short stories, memoirs, children’s books, poetry, journalism and autobiographies. Some members have been published, others others have never put creative pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) before joining us. We invite speakers such as Colin Dexter (Inspector Morse), Robert Harris (Enigma, Fatherland, Pompei and Imperium) and John Jenkins, (editor and publisher of Writers' Forum) to come to our meeting from time to time to give us the benefit of their expertise. Occasionally, we publish anthologies of our members' work - some of our anthologies have won national acclaim
Thames Valley Writers' Circle was formed in 1993. Not wishing to lose contact with each other at the end of a creative writing course, a few of the students joined a group of writers based at the Wilson Centre in Reading. This group only met once a month.  If anyone was sick or went on holiday, it was several weeks before they got together again. After some discussion, it was decided to set up a separate group, meeting weekly. Thus the Thames Valley Writers' Circle came into being.
You can find out more about us by reading through these pages or contact Dick Sawdon-Smith, who will be glad to answer your questions or arrange for you to attend one of our meetings - no charge!
