BRUCE HOLLAND ROGERS

20th May, 2008

After the enjoyable evening with Bruce last year, we welcomed him back before his return to America in July.  Again he was full of ideas about writing, this time ideas about creating ideas.  Most suggestions he said gave a step by step solution but he introduced us to the ‘Creative Circumflex’ which he had designed with his wife and two friends.  It was something that could be used to create ideas for all sorts of people, not just writers.

The Circumflex was split into four quadrants and then each quadrant into two sectors.  Under Entry there was Launch/ Release and Connect/Enunciate, under Craft was Test/Reflect and Revise/Adapt, under Journey he had Explore/Wander and Engage/Flow and under Challenge, Struggle/Suffer and Transform/Shift.  Bruce explained what all of these meant and said they could be delved into at any time in the creative process and repeatedly so.

Bruce also went on to give his four ideas categories.  Recognition, Free Writing, Forcing the Channel and Playing Far Afield for all of which he gave us examples.  As expected, another thought provoking evening from Bruce.
